Sam Heughan: “Claire and Jamie are still the sexiest couple” on Outlander
By Ariba Bhuvad
We are officially just a little over a month away from the season 5 premiere of Outlander. I don’t think I can stress how much I want the Droughtlander to end, and I’m so glad we’re in the home stretch.
Luckily, the closer we get to the premiere, the more we learn about what to expect. This season definitely seems to be going all-in with the American Revolutionary War as the backdrop, and I’m a little worried about what this means for all the leading characters.
Please don’t kill anyone off…please?
After watching the latest Outlander season 5 trailer, I don’t think my concerns are baseless. Things are certainly more chaotic than they’ve been in a while. It’s all very stressful, Sassanechs!
TV Guide just did a cover story on Outlander, and gave us a little more information about the season. And no, it’s not all gloom and doom!
In fact, about 10 minutes into the season 5 premiere, we’ll be treated to a kissing scene between Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe). And if there’s anything that Outlander fans love, it’s any moment of passion shared between the two soulmates. “They might be the grandparents of the show now, but Claire and Jamie are still the sexiest couple—not Bree and Roger,” Heughan said. And for that, we are very thankful.
Speaking of love, season 5 will give fans something we’ve been very anxious to see: Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger’s (Richard Rankin) wedding. According to TV Guide, that episode will show us what all the couples do that night, including Jamie and Claire, who’s bedroom fun is interrupted by their duty as grandparents. Aunt Jocasta and Murtagh also sneak away for some fun, so it’ll be a busy evening.
At least the characters will get to relieve some stress before things get grim. “We’ve tried to get back to the basics: emotional stories [that bring] great highs and gut-wrenching lows,” said executive producer Matthew B. Roberts. “[Fans will have] both good cries and bad cries.”
Season 4 of Outlander ended on a cliffhanger as Jamie was given the task by Governor Tryon (Tim Downie) to track down and kill Murtagh. Of course, this is all very worrisome because Jamie is actually protecting Murtagh, and by doing so, is risking his livelihood and everything he currently has.
I don’t know how this story is going to play out, or how long Jamie can keep up the ruse. But it seems like Heughan very much enjoyed this part of the season.
"For me, it’s the most fun and interesting storyline to see Jamie pitched against his godfather. Inside, Jamie is still the Highland warrior — you see flashes of that — but he’s a military man now, so it’s a new style of fighting. There’s a cannon and muskets and pistols."
Just don’t use those muskets and pistols on Murtagh, please.
