The Witcher season 2 will have a “more linear” story, new characters, and more witchers

The Witcher dropped its first season on Netflix less than a month ago, but fans (us included) are already clamoring for more. That’s only natural when we’re talking about the most in-demand streaming show on the planet.

So when might we see a second season? Speaking to fans in a Reddit AMA, showrunner Lauren  S. Hissrich gave a general idea of when we’ll see Geralt of Rivia again. “We don’t yet have a target launch date for season 2, past 2021,” she wrote. “We don’t want to rush the product. That doesn’t benefit anyone.”

That’s something we can all agree on. Still, even if we won’t actually see new episodes for a while, it sounds like Hissrich is already back to work:

Hissrich also talked about some of the choices made for season 1, like splitting the story up between multiple timelines, a decision that left some fans (okay, me) feeling confused. “[T]he story will be much more linear [in season 2], now that the three characters’ stories have started to intersect,” she said. Well thank the gods for that.

One odd thing about the timelines is that none of the characters seem to change in appearance. For Geralt and Yennefer, who have been magically changed, that tracks, but Hissrich admitted that they may have overlooked Jaskier, who doesn’t seem to age despite a lot of time going by. “We dropped the ball on aging [Jaskier] up over the course of the show. It’s hard to show the passage of time when everyone looks the same, so we’ll be approaching that differently in [season 2].”

Time issues aside, Hissrich promised fans “a whole new set of fun characters coming in season 2,” plus a deeper dive into the show’s mythology. “We decided to save some tidbits of witcher lore until… you actually meet more witchers.”

More witchers you say? We’re on board with that as long as they all have Geralt’s sense of humor.
