DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: “Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part 5”

Ahh, the final part of what has been the best crossover known to man. I’m not sure they can ever live up to what they did here. In fact, it will be impossible. Between all the cameos, references, and talent that gathered to make it all happen, it’s just difficult to imagine it could happen again.

But never say never, and based on Ezra Miller’s cameo, a whole new opportunity for crossovers has opened. Perhaps we may see Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman or Jason Momoa’s Aquaman pop up in future episodes? One can hope, right?

As our Paragons wake up to a new universe, it quickly becomes apparent that something has changed. Things aren’t the way they once were, and no one else seems to recall that the universe died and was reborn. That is, everyone but the Paragons, who now live on the same Earth. Yes, the same Earth.

How exciting is that?! This is hands down the best thing about Part 5, 100%. It makes future crossovers so much easier!

Since this was a Legends episode, it was only fitting that Beebo made an appearance. Except here he was a giant-sized villain stomping through the streets. Even though Beebo was supposed to be “evil” here, I still love him to death.

I particularly enjoyed Part 5 because it felt like a fitting conclusion to everything that happened before, specifically Oliver’s death. We see Sara struggle with Oliver’s loss, and everything about her pain felt so real. Caity Lotz did a phenomenal job with the emotions Sara was feeling. You could feel her pain for losing a friend who’s known her for years. How emotional was the moment she and Diggle gave each other a hug?! I cried so much here because losing Oliver felt just as real to the Arrowverse fans as it did the characters. I also loved seeing Caity Lotz and Grant Gustin share a scene together because they rarely ever do.

Of course, the hour couldn’t end so peacefully. During Barry and Sara’s conversation, one of those freaky shadow demons shows up. Unfortunately, when Nash/Pariah turns up claiming the Anti-Monitor isn’t quite dead, he’s right.

Once again, our Arrowverse superheroes come together for another badass fight sequence to hopefully take down the Anti-Monitor once and for all. And succeed they do, thanks to the genius minds of Ryan Choi and Ray Palmer, who use Ray’s tech to shrink the Anti-Monitor down for all eternity.

With the Anti-Monitor finally defeated, things can hopefully go back to normal, or at least what passes for it in this new world. The final few minutes of the episode show the President of the United States honoring Oliver for all he did while we hear Oliver’s voice in the background as we see what’s left of the multiverse.

This is another one of my favorite parts of the episode because we get more connections and cameos from around the DC Universe. It truly was the best way to end the crossover, if you ask me. It did veer away from the comics slightly. Instead of there being only one Earth after the rebirth, there are still some left..and you can check out who and where belongs to each one below!

  • Earth 2: Home to Stargirl (a new show coming to both DC Universe and the CW)
  • Earth-12: Home to 2011’s Green Lantern (if only Ryan Reynolds could have shown up!)
  • Earth-19: Swamp Thing! (Too bad the show is canceled–at least the dialogue during this scene fit perfectly with his cameo: “civilizations will rise and fall.”
  • Earth-9: DC Universe’s Titans!
  • Earth-21: DC Universe’s Doom Patrol (Who else loved the dancing scene?)
  • Earth-96: Brandon Routh’s Superman from Superman Returns lives to see another day!

If you thought I was done, there’s just a little bit more that left many of us with a big, goofy smile on our faces.

We see a memorial dedicated to Oliver inside of a big warehouse, which starts to make us wonder if it is what we think it is. And yes, it sort of was. Have you heard of the Hall of Justice from the DC Comics? Well, I think we just got our Arrowverse version of that, with the round table and everything, with each superhero’s (White Canary, Supergirl, Black Lightning, Superman, Martian Manhunter, The Flash) emblem on the chair, including one for Oliver (aw!).

And just as the episode signs off, we get one more cameo (sort of) in the form of a monkey making noise on the roof. It’s Gleek the money from Super Friends! Although we never see him, we do see his empty cage.

What. A. Crossover.

Grade: A

And there you have it, Arrowverse fans. We just witnessed a pivotal moment for DC, quite possibly the one it needed to get back on the map. The DC movies have been struggling for quite some time now, but DCTV may just have saved this universe altogether. I mean, Ezra Miller was in it, guys! How cool is that?!

I have zero complaints about how this Arrowverse crossover went, and I really don’t think anything will ever top it. I’m not sure they should even try.

We’ll miss you, Oliver Queen. The Arrowverse won’t be the same without you.

Next. Dave Bautista joins Jason Momoa in the second season of See, on Apple TV+. dark
