If you’ve been keeping up with the final season of Vikings, you watched Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) perish at the hands of Hvitserk (Marco Ilsø), brutally murdered in a bout of madness as Hvitserk thought he was killing his brother Ivar. Unfortunately for Hvitserk, Lagertha’s only son is one of the world’s most revered warriors, and even being Bjorn’s half brother might not save Hvitserk from the wrath of the king of Kattegat.
Or at least that’s the vibe we’re getting from the promo for this week’s new episode, “Valhalla Can Wait.” Check it out below!
It might have appeared that Hvitserk was not a suspect last week as the Viking world said goodbye to Lagertha, but it seems Bjorn has finally figured something out, as we see Hvitserk bound and seemingly in the process of being burned alive. Not exactly my preferred method of reaching Valhalla.
Of course, Hvitserk isn’t the only thing concerning Bjorn and Kattegat, as the new king of all Norway, Harald, is out to eliminate any competition to the throne. Hopefully Bjorn has his house in order before Harald shows up.
The promo also teases a bit more action over in Kiev, where Ivar has been largely relegated to playing mind games Oleg. From the looks of it though, Oleg’s brother Dir has returned in a majorly violent way.
On a more somber note, the Vikings Twitter account shared Lagertha’s final farewell from last week’s episode, so one more time: pour one out for our favorite shieldmaiden.
“Valhalla Can Wait” is the penultimate episode of the first half of Vikings season 6. It airs on Wednesday, January 22 at 9:00 p.m. CST.
