Altered Carbon season 2 gets a premiere date!
By Ashley Hurst
The second season of Netflix’s hit science-fiction drama Altered Carbon has been given an official premiere date, two long years since it made its debut. And to make this news even better, it’s not too far away!
The announcement came from the official Altered Carbon Twitter account, coupled with a short promotional video and the caption: “Your re-sleeving is now complete. 2.27.20.”
Aside from the confirmed premiere date of February 27, we know that Chris Conner will return as Poe and Renee Elise Goldsberry will be reprising her role as Quellcrist Falconer.
Simone Missick (Luke Cage), Dina Shihabi (Jack Ryan), James Saito (The Terror) are among the new actors joining the cast. Also on board is Marvel Cinematic Universe star and Anthony Mackie, the Falcon himself! He will take over the lead role of Takeshi Kovacs, who was portrayed by Joel Kinnaman in season 1. You can pull that trick when your show is set in the future and people are regularly hopping bodies.
As for the plot, we know that season 2 won’t follow the events from the second book by Richard K. Morgan, who wrote the novels on which the series is based. Showrunner Laeta Kalogridis told Variety that the second book , Broken Angels, proved too expensive to adapt for television. “Richard has a very big-budget brain,” she said. “The second book involves a worldwide war with nuclear explosions, some space travel, a giant alien dreadnought and an interstellar fight between aliens. It is prohibitively expensive in scope.”
If you were hoping for an adaptation of book two, sorry about that!
We don’t know much else about the plot, but Netflix released an interesting synopsis:
"Altered Carbon Season 2 finds Takeshi Kovacs, the lone surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors, continuing his centuries-old quest to find his lost love Quellcrist Falconer. After decades of planet-hopping and searching the galaxy, Kovacs finds himself recruited back to his home planet of Harlan’s World with the promise of finding Quell. Haunted by his past and responsible for investigating a series of brutal murders, Kovacs is stunned to discover his new mission to solve the crime and his pursuit to find Quell are one and the same. With the help of his loyal A.I. Poe, Kovacs must now partner with new allies to outwit his enemies and find the truth: Who is Quellcrist Falconer?"
You can watch season 2 of Altered Carbon on Netflix when it releases on February 27, 2019. All eight episodes are set to be released at once, rather than weekly.
