“Green Arrow & the Canaries” backdoor pilot is most-watched episode of Arrow season 8

The Canaries kicked some major butt in last night’s episode of Arrow, the series second-to-last ever. It’s difficult and sad to believe that after this we have just one more episode of Arrow left, but if there was ever an episode to lead us into the finale, this was it.
Anyway, “Green Arrow & the Canaries” wasn’t an ordinary episode, but a backdoor pilot for a potential new series. And if this is a preview of things to come, it’s worth getting excited about.
The Crisis has taken its toll on all members of the Arrowverse, although not everyone remembers what happened. In fact, only a handful of them actually know what went down during that epic crossover event, and those who don’t are living their lives as they always have, unaware of what and who it took to get them to where they are.
Amongst the clueless is Oliver and Felicity’s daughter, Mia, who’s one of the leads in the Green Arrow & the Canaries backdoor pilot. In her new reality, she’s dating/engaged to J.J. (Diggle’s evil son/Deathstroke, if you recall) and is one of Star City’s socialites.
Life is pretty great until Laurel shows up and zaps Mia’s memories back and recruits her and Dinah (who remembers everything but now lives in 2040 as a bar owner/singer) to help rescue a kidnapped socialite. I wasn’t too happy with Laurel disrupting Mia’s life, but after seeing what happened, I’m so glad she did.
It was such an action-packed episode and I loved every single minute of it. It was a team-up I never knew I wanted but I am so glad we got.
And I’m not alone in feeling that way! According to TV Line, this episode was the most-watched episode of Arrow’s final season so far. A whopping 921,000 total viewers tuned in to see what this backdoor pilot was all about, and it’s safe to say no one was disappointed. Hopefully that kind of support will garner Green Arrow & the Canaries a series order, as they’ve yet to get one.
