Captain Marvel is officially one step closer to coming back into our lives as Disney kicks off development on the sequel. We last saw our badass, empowering female superhero fighting alongside the Avengers, helping to take down Thanos.

Good times.

However, we were first introduced to Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, at a very different time in her life, back in the ’90s when she was getting reacquainted with her roots on Earth. I still remember the incredible feeling I had while watching her on the big screen. Plus the ’90s throwbacks were a treat.

According to Variety, Disney is in final negotiations with Megan McDonnell to write the movie. McDonnell, who will be replacing the original husband-wife writing-directing team of Anna Boden
and Ryan Fleck, is a writer on the upcoming Disney+ series WandaVision, which is all about Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch. Captain Marvel 2 (official name pending) doesn’t have a director yet, but Disney is on the hunt for a woman to handle the job.

The first Captain Marvel was a big success. I think we need something like his to look forward to in a post-Endgame world, because it all feels very bleak at the moment, with Iron Man and Captain America both no longer in play.

I’m hoping the Captain Marvel sequel will take us into the deep, unexplored parts of outer space. That’s where Carol Danvers shines, literally. While development on the film has begun, Disney has yet to announce a release date, so be patient my friends, we’ll know soon enough!
