DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Episode 501: “Meet the Legends”

Oh, how happy my heart is that DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is back! This just might be my favorite Arrowverse show because of how lighthearted it is. It knows how to make fun of itself. I have to give the series a lot of credit for kicking off their season after Crisis.

“Meet the Legends” presents itself in a mockumentary style, as Ava agrees to let a film crew follow the team around and record their daily movements.

Sara, Ray and Mick return from the crossover to find out what is going on, and let’s just say, Sara is not happy. But hey, the Legends have gained a lot of popularity following the Heyworld fiasco in the season 4 finale. They took down Neron and now the world can’t get enough of them; even the Obamas are hanging out with them.

As I said, Sara is not very happy to find out what’s going on, and we can’t really blame her. She just lost Oliver and universes literally collapsed in front of her eyes. It wasn’t easy, and it takes Ava and the rest of the Legends a while to understand that.

In true Legends of Tomorrow fashion, things get chaotic when a time quake shakes things up and takes them to 1917 Russia, when Rasputin and the Russian royals are mixing it up. I love that Legends found a way to balance the Crisis with their own arc. The Crisis has definitely affected their world, but they still have to do what they have to do.

I couldn’t stop laughing at the Rasputin storyline because of how oddly relatable they tried to make him. They essentially turned him into a villain who can’t get enough camera time. And of course, in a nod to history, Rasputin is absolutely impossible to kill. That is until a shrunken Ray enlarges himself inside of Rasputin’s body and blows him to smithereens.

It was interesting, however, to see how Legends tackled the Zari storyline, and how they managed to loop her back into the show. You see, after the events of Heyworld, Zari was replaced by her brother Behrad, who is part of the Legends.

No one even remembers she ever existed, but when Nate sits down with Rasputin, he alludes to Nate’s lost love from around the time he was brought back to life. I really loved this aspect of it because I miss Zari so, so much and I’m hoping we get to see her back with the Legends sooner rather than later.

And I think the fact that while fixing Gideon, Nate sees footage of Behrad and Zari glitching over one another is proof that we will have Zari back soon. Especially since she left Nate a message to come and find her.

Awkward — he doesn’t even know who she is!

Grade: A-

Arrowverse fans, we had a pretty amazing week of shows following the Crisis, and I have to say that DCTV has never looked better. There’s so much to look forward to as each show’s season progresses, especially with all the unexpected changes they’re forced to deal with.

Just this week, we’ve got Winn, Beth, and Zari (sort of) back, and I think this is the start of something spectacular for the Arrowverse.

Next. Whoopi Goldberg will return to play Guinan on Star Trek: Picard. dark
