Priyanka Chopra in final talks to join cast of The Matrix 4
By Ashley Hurst
Warner Bros. is staffing up for The Matrix 4, its highly anticipated sequel to the classic action trilogy. This time, it’s added another heavy hitter: Indian actress and singer Priyanka Chopra, who had a successful career in Bollywood movies before breaking into Hollywood. She also won the 2000 Miss World pageant, and is married to Nick Jonas.
The sequel, directed by Matrix co-creator Lana Wachowski, is slated to begin filming very soon in Southern California. In fact, it’s been revealed that the cast of the currently untitled movie (we expect a subtitle to come along sooner or later) have already been taking part in fight training for weeks in preparation for filming.
Carrie-Anne Moss will reprise her role as Trinity, and of course it wouldn’t be The Matrix without Keanu Reeves as Neo! Sure, bringing these characters back seems like a tall order after what happened to them in The Matrix Revolutions, but we’ll leave that to the fan theorists to figure out. It’s science fiction; I’m sure they can make it happen.
Beyond that, there are lots of new people coming on board, including Jonathan Groff (Mindhunter), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen, The Get Down), Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Jessica Henwick (Game of Thrones). It is also rumored that Jada Pinkett Smith, who played Niobe in the final two Matrix movies, could also return.
Now, Variety reports that Warner Bros are in the “final talks” with Priyanka Chopra to join the cast, although it’s currently unclear who she’ll play, which goes for all the new cast members. Priyanka Chopra will film Matrix 4 alongside Citadel, an upcoming Amazon Prime mini-series with Richard Madden, written by none other than the award-winning Russo Brothers.
The Matrix 4 is set to release May 21, 2021.
