Filming for season 4 of The Last Kingdom wrapped several months ago, leaving arselings like myself hopeful that we would see the further adventures of Uhtred and company sooner rather than later, perhaps even this spring.

Adrian Bouchet (Steapa) tossed water on that hope, saying he believes season 4 will not arrive until sometime this summer. Bouchet was clear, however, that this was not confirmed by Netflix or producers at Carnival Films, and now producers of the show have begun to tease its return. First up, a recent tweet from producer Vicki Delow teased season 4 was “coming soon”.

"Final mixing… The Last Kingdom Series 4… Coming soon…"

Sounds promising. It might all comes down to your definition of the word “soon.” Are we talking about the geologic history of the Earth? Or just the difference of a few months? Hopefully the latter. Either way, I’m also wondering about what “Open the Gates” means.

Delow wasn’t the only crew member taking us behind the scenes. The official account also posted this show from director Ed Bazalgette. The work continues:

And finally, Bazalgette shared an image of the work being done on the audio side of things. Typically, soundtracks are one of the last things to be completed in post-production, so now we’re really starting to get excited. Also, we see you there, Father Pyrlig.

Moving on, a season 4 makeup artist shared this behind-the-scenes image of Mark Rowley (Finan) enjoying a break on set, while continuing to tease the show’s return.

Could we just get a trailer already?

Circling back to Bouchet, the man was gracious enough to give us a look at his new liege lord, King Edward (Timothy Innes):

How will Edward’s reign differ from his father Alfred’s? Uhtred and his friends will be keeping a close watch.

Bouchet also captured an image of James Northcote (Aldhelm) taking his own behind-the-scenes image. Layers on layers in this picture:

Good to see Northcote in action!

Finally, rowdy man Mark Rowley (Finan) recently celebrated his 30th birthday. Not sure why Rowley thought he’d be eaten by a shark by age 30, but hey, everyone has their own nightmare. Maybe he’s way into surfing?

No one brings Finan to life you like you do, Mr. Rowley, so stay away from the beaches. Destiny is all.

Next. Why Disney+ putting the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on hold is a good thing. dark
