Game of Thrones wins Artios Award from the Casting Society of America
By Corey Smith
Whatever we might have thought of the final season of Game of Thrones, we can all agree that the casting on the show was superb throughout. Clearly, the Casting Society of America felt the same way, because it honored Game of Thrones casting directors Nina Gold, Robert Sterne and Carla Stronge at the 35th Annual Artios Awards on Thursday, according to Variety. Each of them took home an Artio Award for casting excellence in a TV drama.
Similar to the Directors or Actors Guilds, the Casting Society of America honors excellence in casting in everything from small-budget feature films to television dramas and comedies. Other big winners included Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (also cast by Nina Gold). Gold has long been hailed for her work on Thrones; a lot of the young actors on the show are now leading hugely successful careers in Hollywood, including Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams. And of course, Gold mixed them in with veterans like Lena Headey and Sean Bean, putting together an ensemble no one is likely to soon forget.
The win continues a solid award season for Game of Thrones, which also recently won big at the Parrot Analytics’ Global TV Demand Awards, the American Cinema Editors Awards, and saw Peter Dinklage take home a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance as Tyrion Lannister. Award season rolls on for season 8 this weekend, with the Directors Guild Awards and Writers Guild of America Awards both on Saturday, February 1, and the British Academy of Film & Television Arts Awards follow on Sunday, February 2.
