Star Trek: Picard — Airing now
…when we can talk about the real thing!
Picard is the flagship show on CBS All Access for the first part of this year, and what a cool gamble it is. Following in the footsteps of Star Trek: Discovery, Picard is available exclusively on the streaming service. While this might feel a little annoying to longtime fans of the series who are used to Star Trek being a serialized weekly show they can tune in to, it also makes complete sense given its massive popularity; of course CBS wants to use it to win a couple battles in the streaming wars.
Picard is set to be the spiritual successor to Star Trek: The Next Generation. Aside from Patrick Stewart’s return as arguably the coolest commander of the franchise, many other actors from the Trek family are coming back, including Brent Spiner as Data, Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi, and Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine (from Star Trek: Voyager).
I only hope that Seven of Nine doesn’t take over this show’s plot like she did on Voyager. The plot involves Picard being drawn out of retirement in part to investigate Romulans experimenting on former Borg drones, so anything is possible.
Picard airs Thursdays on CBS All Access.
