Stranger Things 4 may have an extra episode and an origin story
As production on the fourth season of Stranger Things begins, a new report has it that the season will have nine episodes, which is one more than initially thought. This comes from critic Michael Ausiello of TV Line, who’s pretty reliable, hence why we’re talking about it. According to him, the extra episode could be an origin story for a “fan-favorite” character. He also says that story could possibly stretch over more than just that extra episode. Who that character might be, we’re not yet sure.
If the show does take a break to tell an origin story, it could be a little like the episode “The Lost Sister” in season 2, which took focus away from the gang in Hawkins to focus on Eleven traveling to Chicago and looking for a character named Kali who went through the same program she went through as a kid. That episode is also infamous for being boring and putting Eleven into dumb black eyeliner, so let’s hope this one is more successful.
So what character might be getting an origin story? Well, there’s always Eleven herself, but we pretty much know her entire story. We also know that Hopper has a past, but we’ve seen flashbacks into his past, too, seeing his time with daughter before she died. And of course it wouldn’t make much sense to do origin stories for all the young kids in the cast. What, we flash back to when they’re 3 years old?
If I were a betting man, I’d go with Robin (Maya Hawke), Steve’s Scoop’s Ahoy co-worker. We don’t really know that much about her, and wouldn’t it be neat if she somehow is a Russian sleeper agent? And we need some way to pull Hopper back into the show after he “died” in season 3. We’re not sure what exactly happened, but it’s hard to see the show letting him go that easily. Smart money’s on him being locked up in the Siberian gulag we saw in the post-credits scene.
Or I’m just delusional and want Hopper back by any means necessary. Anyway, who do you think might get an origin story in Stranger Things 4? Let’s discuss.
