Game of Thrones exposition extends stay in Spain
By Dan Selcke
The Game of Thrones Exposition is the premiere way for fans of HBO’s game-changing hit to get an up-close look at the costumes, weapons, maps, flags and other props and sets used in the series. It’s currently planted in Madrid, where it’s hung out since October of last year and welcomed more than 75,000 visitors, according to Los Siete Reinos. And now, it looks like it’s extending its stay!
Specifically, the exposition will stay where it is — Calle de la Ribera del Sena, 7, 28042 Madrid — until April 19. Game of Thrones has a long association with Spain, having used the city of Girona to stand in for King’s Landing and Braavos, an arena in Osuna as Daznak’s Pit in Meereen, a site in Seville for the Dragonpit, and quite a bit more. It was basically the show’s home away from Northern Ireland. No wonder lots of people are visiting.
Before this, the Game of Thrones Exposition passed through Northern Ireland and Barcelona, among other places. If you want to see what it’s all about, you can get tickets here.
Later this year, a permanent Game of Thrones Studio Tour will open at Linen Mill Studios in Corbet-Banbridge, Northern Ireland, one of the series’ principal filming locations. That will probably become ground zero for Game of Thrones tourism going forward, but for people who can’t travel across the world to look and costumes and such, hopefully the traveling exposition will keep doing its thing.
