IG-11 (Taika Waititi) in THE MANDALORIAN, exclusively on Disney+

Will season 2 have a new droid, and why does Mando hate them?

Star Wars lore is full of bromances and friendships between men, woman and faithful robots. The original series paired Luke Skywalker with R2-D2 and C-3P0, and since then we’ve witnessed a fairly steady stream of faithful sidekick droids, including the crazy astromech Chopper (Star Wars Rebels), Rogue One‘s noble K-2SO, the cute BB-8, and the female, equal-rights oriented L3-37 (Solo: A Star Wars Story).

We learned to love The Mandalorian‘s IG-11, an assassin droid working as a bounty hunter when we first meet him in the series premiere. Mando blasts a hole through the robot’s head, but it is resurrected after some hard work put in by Kuiil, who reprograms the killer machine into a super-protective nurse devoted to protecting Baby Yoda. IG-ll dies a good death, exploding itself so its company can fight their way through a stormtrooper ambush.

Will a new personality-packed machine come on scene in season 2? It’s hard to imagine one won’t, considering this is Star Wars. Also, we still have to learn exactly what Mando has against droids, and why. The odds are good that a new robo-pal is on the way.
