If you’re in the UK and missing Torchwood, you’re in luck: the entire TV series is now available to watch on BBC iPlayer!
Here’s some fantastic news for fans of Torchwood in the UK. On Friday, the entire TV series was made available for streaming on BBC iPlayer. All four seasons of the massively popular Doctor Who spin-off – including Children of Earth and Miracle Day – are now available to watch.
Running from 2006 to 2011, Torchwood was arguably the most popular Doctor Who spin-off series ever made. From the very beginning, it established a tone that was far darker and more adult than its parent series.
It also wasn’t afraid of taking big risks. Not only did it kill off many major characters over the years, but the show radically changed its identity with its third and fourth seasons. After two series of mostly stand-alone stories, the third series aimed for a single series length storyline with Children of Earth. Two years later, we got another single epic story twice as long with Miracle Day, this one set much more in the US.
With his recent return to Doctor Who, now’s a perfect time to revisit Captain Jack Harkness’s earlier adventures – or even discover them for the first time!

A perfect time for new fans
While we may not see Torchwood on screen ever again, this is still wonderful news. The iPlayer is one of the easiest ways to watch BBC TV series in the UK, so it’s great for Torchwood fans to have a highly accessible and fresh way of watching some of their favorite moments all over again.
Perhaps even better than that however is what this means for Doctor Who fans who have yet to discover the spin-off. With Captain Jack’s recent return in Fugitive of the Judoon, there’ll be a whole new generation of fans interested in catching up on the spin-off, and learning more about where Jack came from.
Even if they watched him when he first appeared in Doctor Who, there are many fans who would’ve been too young for the series at the time. So the iPlayer is a good opportunity for those fans to catch up on the series now.
It may not be the same as getting new episodes of the TV series. But it’s still a very welcome return for Torchwood to the BBC iPlayer.
Will you be watching the series on iPlayer? Have you been binge-watching it this weekend already? Let us know in the comments below.
