Directors behind Sin City, Logan working on The Mandalorian season 2 (UPDATE: Nope)

facebooktwitterreddit

The first season of The Mandalorian had some major talent in the directors chair, most notably Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, who also voiced the brave bounty hunter droid IG-11. Now, a new episode of Black Series Rebels has revealed that Disney has signed up a couple more big names to help with season 2 of the live-action Star Wars show, which is in production now.

According to this report, both Robert Rodriguez and James Mangold have directed sequences for the new season. Both of those are pretty big names. Rodriguez is behind a ton of stylish, exciting films from over the years, including DesperadoFrom Dusk Till Dawn, Sin City, and Alita: Battle Angel. Any show could benefit from his input.

Mangold, meanwhile, is the guy behind acclaimed movies like Logan and the Oscar-winner Ford v Ferrari. Clearly, Disney is swinging for the fences with season 2.

However, interestingly, neither Mangold nor Rodriguez will be directing full episodes of the show, but rather filmed select sequences for episodes. That’s a little usual, but the first season of The Mandalorian was so consistently entertaining I’m inclined to let showrunner Jon Favreau make the second however he wants.

Black Series Rebels also has it that director Bryce Dallas Howard, who worked on the first season, is returning.

The Mandalorian season 2 will premiere on Disney+ this October.

UPDATE: Nope. At least so far as Mangold is concerned. After Ron Howard retweeted this report as it appeared in IGN, Mangold swooped in with a correction:

Ouch, James Manhold. A dagger in my heart. Fair point, though.

Anyway, the back and forth continued:

But Bryce Dallas Howard and Robert Rodriguez haven’t denied anything. Can we still make wild assumptions about them?
