Episode 1206: “Praxeus”

Doctor Who tackles social issues once again, and this time around, it just might freak you out to your core. The group splits up only to find that an alien technology has been embedded in plastic, the very same plastic that birds consume when people are careless with their garbage.

The episode finds our crew following groups of birds around the world that have been taken over by this alien tech. It’s up to the Doctor and her companions to figure out a way to save the day, but it’s one of the “characters of the episode” who ultimately uses the cure to save the world and rid it of those Hitchcockian murder birds.

I was excited by one stray line of dialogue from the Doctor that took us back to the Peter Capaldi days. The Doctor has multiple brains! The Doctor alluded to having three brains in the season 10 episode “Extremis.” That brings us to this week: “Come on brains! Move it along!” Coincidence? We think not!

Small, casual moments like these have made this season of Doctor Who feel exciting and thrilling, especially for long-time fans of the series. There seem to be Easter eggs embedded throughout the season, and the connections back to various Doctors have made it all really fun. We’ve had an old TARDIS, a Doctor from the past (presumably), and now the multiple brains callback. What else do they have in store for us next? I can’t wait to find out!
