Thor: Love and Thunder will feature the Guardians of the Galaxy

The fourth movie in the Thor saga, Love and Thunder, will reportedly feature the Guardians of the Galaxy!

This doesn’t come as a huge surprise. In the final moments of Avengers: Endgame, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) joined up with the Guardians, jokingly renaming the group to “Asgardians of the Galaxy,” a nod to Cullen Bunn and Matteo Lolli’s comic series of the same name. We expected to see this lot together soon enough, although we weren’t sure if it would be in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy 3, which is due out in 2022, or Thor: Love and Thunder, which is out next year. Sooner is better.

Confirmation comes from Vin Diesel (Groot), who spilled the beans to ComicBook.com. “[Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi] talked to me about how Thor will incorporate some of the Guardians of the Galaxy, which will be very interesting,” Diesel said. “Nobody knows, but maybe I shouldn’t have said anything.”

Well, too late now. Diesel doesn’t tell us exactly how the Guardians will play into Thor’s story, but I suppose we’ll have to take what we can get. Remember, in Love and Thunder, the roll of the god of thunder will be taken up by Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), as it is in the comics. But the old Thor will surely still have a part to play.

At least Diesel was able to be a little more clear about his own character, Groot, who we have seen in a few different forms in previous movies, including Baby Groot and Teenage Groot. Now, it looks like we’re getting an entirely new form of Groot. “I only have two words about that character and it is ‘Alpha Groot,'” Diesel teased. It’s down to interpretation what exactly this form of Groot will look like, as we’ve seen many in the comics, but I’m hoping for a form reminiscent of King Groot.

This makes the second major piece of news for this movie in the last week. The first confirmed that former Batman actor Christan Bale has turned from DC to Marvel and will be playing a major villain in the movie.

I’m excited to see how Taika Waititi’s vision for this movie goes down with fans. Thor: Love and Thunder will release in theaters on November 5, 2021.
