Acting legend Richard E. Grant, who’s appeared in everything from Doctor Who to Downton Abbey to Logan to Game of Thrones (as fake Tywin Lannister in the play Arya saw in Braavos) to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, is looking to add another notch to his belt of iconic franchises: according to Discussing Film, he’ll be starring in Loki, the Disney+ series that follows the god of mischief (Tom Hiddleston) after he absconds with the space stone in Avengers: Endgame.

Loki is building a pretty impressive cast for itself. There’s Hiddleston, of course, who will be cavorting through time causing all manner of mischief. No, we’re not sure why the space stone gives Loki the power to time travel, but that’s what it looks like he gets up to in this series. Other cast members include Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino and Cailey Fleming (Judith Grimes on The Walking Dead).

According to sources at Variety, Grant will appear in only one episode of the show. With his chops, he could be just about anybody, although for some reason my mind immediately goes to him playing Winston Churchill. I know, it’s the most obvious role to cast a great British actor like Grant in on a show about time travel, but I can’t help it. I’m sure there are other people he could play. I just can’t think of any.

We’ll have a while to mull it over. While Marvel has a couple shows coming out on Disney+ this year — including The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision — Loki isn’t due out until 2021. We have only the barest slip of footage to go on:

Until then, I can try and think of other British historical figures for Grant to play.
