Stephen Lang has “given up trying to keep track” of the Avatar sequels

Actor Stephen Lang, who portrayed the villain Colonel Miles Quaritch in 2009’s Avatar, will make a surprise return in the sequels to those movies, even though he definitely died at the end.
We’ll wait to see exactly how that happens. With all of the upcoming four sequels being filmed back to back to back to back, Lang told The National that he’s finding it difficult to keep up with the story.
It must be difficult to keep track when you’re working on multiple sequels at the same time, especially when those movies involve a ton of motion capture and CGI. “I’ve given up trying to keep track,” he said. “The whole thing gets a little confusing.” Let’s just hope that fans don’t find the movies too confusing when they premiere!
Production on the sequels kicked off back in 2017, and it looks like things are going quite well! Late last year, James Cameron told Variety that scripts are completed for all four movies, and motion captures were close to completion.
"From 2013 until now we’ve mostly designed the whole world across four new movies. We’ve written, finished scripts for all four of those films. We’ve cast them, and we’ve [performance] captured movie 2, movie 3, and the first part of movie 4. We’re mostly done with the live action. I’ve got a couple months in New Zealand in the spring, so we’re kind of on track with what we set out to do."
Avatar debuted in theaters a little over 10 years ago to overwhelming critic acclaim. The movie even became the highest-grossing movie of all time, racking up $2.790 billion worldwide. Unfortunately for Cameron, it was later dethroned by Avengers: Endgame, which grossed $2.797 billion. Despite the dominance of Marvel throughout recent years, Lang thinks the Avatar sequels will be good enough to reclaim the record. “I expect so,” he said simply.
The first of the Avatar sequels is set for release on December 17, 2021. Parts three, four and five are set to be released in 2023, 2025 and 2027 respectively.
