Another day, another delay to a major television show or movie thanks to the Coronavirus. This time, it’s AMC’s second The Walking Dead spinoff series, World Beyond, which will follow the first generation of kids to grow up in the thick of the zombie apocalypse. The two-season show was slated for an April 12 premiere, and although filming has been done for a while, the final few episodes needed some spit and polish, so the whole shebang has been put on hold.

The official Walking Dead Twitter account broke the news:

“Two sisters along with two friends leave a place of safety and comfort to brave dangers, known and unknown, living and undead on an important quest,” reads the show’s official synopsis. “Pursued by those who wish to protect them and those who wish to harm them, a tale of growing up and transformation unfurls across dangerous terrain, challenging everything they know about the world, themselves and each other.”

World Beyond was due to premiere on the same night as AMC aired the season 10 finale of The Walking Dead. Together with a new season of Fear the Walking Dead, it was going to be part of a near-year-long unbroken stretch of Walking Dead content, but that’s no longer happening. There’s also the question of what AMC will put in that timeslot instead.

Perhaps AMC should air the first few episodes of World Beyond sooner rather than later, hoping to finish post-production on the last batch while the season runs? But of course, no one knows how long the Coronavirus is going to hold up the entertainment industry. Delays are our new norm, so we might as well get used to it.
