Outlander author criticizes awkward sex scene in latest episode

Outlander is known for its steamy, romantic sex scenes between Claire and Jamie. Honestly, it’s hard to recall an awkward or an uncomfortable one…until the most recent episode, “Better to Marry Than Burn.” I think most fans will agree that there was something so off about Jamie and Claire’s chemistry in that scene.

I’m talking about the scene after Claire and Jamie fight about giving her wedding bands to Phillip Wylie in exchange for information on Stephen Bonnet. Claire got pissed and upset with Jamie for even considering this, and it led to them fighting in the stable. And then having sex. And it was kind of strange.

It ends up that Outlander author Diana Gabaldon was a little put off, too, and shared her thoughts on Twitter:

Of course, fans wasted no time at all criticizing Gabaldon back about her opinion, but I think she has a point. And she later clarified that her criticism was very specific:

With all this said, I don’t think we can always expect perfection from each and every moment of every episode, and there are times where things are bound to not feel right. It happens all the time in most shows, but it just feels like a bigger deal because it’s rare for Outlander.

But I think we can all surely move on from this glitch and concentrate on the troubles that lay ahead for the Fraser family. We still have Stephen Bonnet to deal with, and there’s nothing more horrible than that! Time for everyone to come together.
