Wonder Woman 1984 release date pushed back two months

Wonder Woman 1984 has joined the growing list of films, shows, and events cancelled or pushed back by the coronavirus pandemic. Happily, in this case, it’s just pushed back. The movie, which features Gal Gadot back in the title role, was originally going to drop into theaters on June 5. Now, we’ll have to wait until August 14. “We hope the world will be in a safer and healthier place by then,” said Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group Chairman Toby Emmerich, per Deadline.
Warner Bros. also delayed James Wan’s horror movie Malignant, the musical In the Heights, and the Scooby-Doo origin story Scoob! However, Wonder Woman 1984 is the only one of those to actually have a new release date. Director Patty Jenkins assured fans on Twitter that the movie would be appearing on the big screen rather than be released to streaming services, which is something some studios are doing now that so many people are sheltering in place and catching on up on their backlogs:
It’s comforting that Warner Bros. actually gave Wonder Woman a release date — when the Black Widow movie was delayed last week, it didn’t get one. Still, one wonders if the theaters will be open by August 14. I guess we’ll see.
And when theaters do open back up, are we going to get a big rush of tentpole movies all at once? Or maybe we’ll just a jam-packed couple of months with something interesting always just opening up. We’ve gotta find silver linings somehow, right?
