1. Westworld

Ah, if only COVID-19 was part of some simulation within a simulation, and instead of us all being locked inside to stay away from it, we were actually in a park where nothing was real.

That’s exactly the sort of mind-breaking stuff that makes up HBO’s sci-fi drama Westworld. Set in a world where the rich can live out their fantasies in a western-themed park populated by humanoid robots called hosts, this show is all about deep twists and hard-to-wrangle-with moral quandaries. As you can guess, many of the guests do awful things to the hosts, whose memories are wiped regularly to keep them in line. Westworld might not quite be an apocalypse-themed show…but at the rate things are going, it might end up being one by the end.

The main plot revolves around the hosts, led by Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood), gaining enough sentience to realize what terrible things the human visitors to the park are doing to them. Needless to say, it doesn’t end well.

Westworld‘s third season is currently airing Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO, which makes this the perfect time to get caught up. The first two seasons can be streamed on HBO Now.
