Harry Potter fans, have you ever wanted to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Have you ever wanted to learn spells and tricks of the wizard trade? Well, while physically apparating to Hogwarts is not an option, you can virtually enroll into the school now!
This opportunity comes from Hogwarts is Here, a fan-run social network that’s been around for years, but is really stepping up its game now, just as fans at home under lockdown are looking for something to do. Once enrolled in this online community, there are seven different courses to pick from, including Astronomy, Charms, Herbology, History of Magic, Potions, Transfiguration and Defense Against the Dark Arts. Who will be the professors leading the charge on each course? Well, that’s TBD for the moment, but we can only hope Defense Against the Dark Arts can hang onto a professor for longer than a year.
I’m sorry to convey to the Potterheads that there will be no sorting hat ceremony, but the plus side is you can choose which house you belong to! Personally, I’m House Gryffindor through and through.
Along with picking what classes you’d like to take, students can also compete against others to become Head Boy or Girl. I don’t know about anyone reading this, but this is my Harry Potter dream come true. What the 14-year old me would do to be able to get even a tiny glimpse of being a student at Hogwarts and be a part of the wizarding world! The virtual school is close enough for me!
There’s also an RPG (role-playing game) aspect of the virtual world. Fans can dive deep into the classes to complete actual assignments, quizzes and exams. But don’t worry: it’s not all work and no play. You can also join groups to play Quidditch matches, head to Hogsmeade, and hang out in the Common rooms. And all the while, you’ll be gaining points that will go to your House. And after working through all seven years of the curriculum, you can graduate from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! How cool is that? If you’re interested, you can enroll here.
Speaking of cool, MinaLima, the design studio behind some of the graphic props in the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies, is releasing a new illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. You can get a sneak peek of the artwork below. (Spoiler alert: it’s amazing!)
If you’re hoping to snag a copy of this, it will be available October 20th on Amazon — click here to pre-order now.
So everyone is social distancing right now, which is part of the reason why it’s such a good time to join virtual Hogwarts. But if you want something less time-intensive, feel free to enjoy this Harry Potter family reunion, as Jason Isaacs (the icky Lucius Malfoy) and Tom Felton (his even ickier son Draco Malfoy) had a meeting of the minds on Instagram:
Just two Malfoys, sharing lockdown life.
And finally, Audible and Pottermore released an excerpt from the upcoming audiobook edition of The Tales of Beedle of Bard, to be read by a host of Harry Potter stars, including Isaacs himself!
And that’s all the Harry Potter news fit to post!
