On Disney+, Avatar has finally ditched its widely mocked Papyrus font

Avatar, aka that 3D movie with the blue aliens, is the second-highest grossing film of all time — before Avengers: Endgame came along to take its crown, it had the number one spot, and if director James Cameron has its way, it’ll eventually be number one again, but that’s a story for a different time.

The point is, the movie was a huge investment, and it made an ungodly amount of money. So why was the original title design just the word “Avatar” in Papyrus font, which you can find on any word processor?

I’m far from the first person to complain about this; Papyrus-gate reached a fever pitch in 2017, when Saturday Night Live featured a sketch where Ryan Gosling was driven mad — mad, I tell you — by the insanity of such an expensive film having such a cheap logo.

But no more! As CinemaBlend has noticed, there’s a new logo for Avatar visible on Disney+, one that actually looks like it was made by a graphic designer:

It’s got the little bird in the “A” and everything! The what’s-it-called! (Looks it up.) Ikran.

We can assume the new-and-improved logo will be used for the four — yes, four — Avatar sequels currently in development. Avatar 2 is currently scheduled for release on December 17, 2021; Avatar 3 for December 22, 2023; Avatar 4 for December 19, 2025; and Avatar 5 for December 17, 2027.

Or at least, that was the plan. Like everything else in Hollywood, the Avatar production schedule has been thrown off by the coronavirus, so it may be a little longer before we see the ikran — see, I remember it now — take to the skies again.

Next. Yes, the final season of Game of Thrones was a chaotic mess, and it was glorious. dark
