The Man in Black is back in this Sunday’s new Westworld episode
Westworld’s third season is back this Sunday with “The Mother of Exiles,” and HBO has just released a batch of shiny new photos to tease us. What stands out this week is the return of Ed Harris as William, aka the Man in Black.
But before we get to the pics, let’s take a look at the teaser for Episode 304:
Sounds like Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) is taunting William as she tests him for fidelity. If you don’t recall, when last we saw William, he may or may not have been trapped in an endless loop in the bowls of Westworld, getting tested over and over to see if his new host body (maybe?) can sync with his mind. It was left ambiguous, like a lot of things on this show. “I guess there is some justice after all,” Dolores says. “A prisoner of your own sins. You still don’t even understand who you are. If any of this was your choice…well you already know.” She does love cryptic speeches, doesn’t she?
Okay, let’s get to those photos! First up, we’ve got Dolores and Caleb (Aaron Paul) — who is rocking a new black suit — walking about town.

It looks like Caleb is officially taking life advice from Dolores. Here, he…opens a checking account?

Does this mean Caleb has joined Dolores’ effort to kill all humans? Eh, I guess it’s something to do.
Below, Dolores looks at someone, probably wondering if she’d enjoy bathing in their blood.

Here’s Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson)…or the host inhabiting the body of Charlotte Hale, anyway. Who is she talking to?

Probably Engerraund Serac (Vincent Cassel), the shadowy rich guy who’s quietly buying out Delos:

Like Caleb, Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) is rocking some sharp new threads. I dunno what he’s putting his hands up for, though. Is someone about to shoot him?

Maeve looks worried. When last we saw her, she was under Serac’s control, so that checks out.

And finally, William looks absolutely miserable, wherever he is. I’m guessing his is a simulation of the unhappy home he shared with his wife and daughter, which we saw in flashbacks in season 2.

William’s in a bad way. His wife committed suicide a while back, and he killed his daughter thinking she was a host. Whatever exactly is going on with him, he’s seen better days.
“The Mother of Exiles” was directed by Paul Cameron and written by Jordan Goldberg and Lisa Joy. We’ll be covering it after it airs this Sunday on HBO!
