Negan talks with Alpha’s daughter in clip from new Walking Dead episode

In the latest episode of The Walking Dead, “Look at the Flowers,” Negan finally reverted back to his old ways as a ruthless leader when the Whisperer’s bowed to him as their new “Alpha.” We all know how much Negan loves power, and he indulges the worship for a bit, playing with Daryl and busting out some zingers. But in the end, Negan is just having a bit of fun before he kills all of his new followers.

Speaking on the Talking Dead podcast, Jeffrey Dean Morgan said how much he enjoyed filming that scene, but apparently Norman Reedus (Daryl) doesn’t have as many fond memories. “I loved it, Norman hated it, which made me like it more,” Morgan said.

"It was great. It just kind of pivoted that whole scene, and I think when Negan realises what’s going on, he absolutely becomes gleeful, which was fun because I had a crossbow pointed at my face the whole episode. So to have that whole moment of tables turning was great."

I’m hoping we see more of Negan in power, but I don’t feel like this scene was foreshadowing anything to come; it was more to show that Negan has cast his lot with Daryl and the rest of the gang. Either way, it was fun.

And while Reedus may not have enjoyed filming his scene with Negan, it sounds like Melissa McBride (Carol) relished her chance to work with Morgan for the first time — before the surprise reveal that Carol and Negan had plotted Alpha’s death together, the pair had never shared a scene. “It was so much fun, and I was so excited, McBride told ComicBook.com. “But it was great fun, and we did the scene several times and did it different ways. He’s a really fun actor to play with, trying different things, and I was just really happy, just excited, excited for that day.”

Carol and Negan have an interesting dynamic, since she was one of the few lead characters not present when Negan lined everyone up and killed Glenn and Abraham back in season 7. “I think she certainly knows and has heard stories, and he’s a legend, but in a way of a bit of a mythical character because she wasn’t here,” McBride said.

"It’s the first time we’ve ever seen them together and the first time they’ve seen one another, I believe. So there is that separation factor and knowing what he could quite possibly be capable of, and he also has the most to gain if she’s looking for a cohort, a cohort to help her catch or kill the Alpha."

Back to the Talking Dead, Morgan also talked about the sex scene between Negan and Alpha (Samantha Morton) from the midseason premiere, a scene that got the episode slapped with a rare sexual content rating. Did anyone notice that the two kept their socks on during the scene?

"I mean, it was pretty naked, except for the socks. It’s like a thing. It’s crazy. They were more upset about the socks than anything I’ve ever done on screen, and it didn’t even dawn on me that that could be a thing. Socks freaking people out."

It irritates me that people think that’s the freakiest thing about that scene, considering Alpha is literally wearing a zombie mask while it happens!

But all of this is in the past. What about what comes next? ComicBook.com got its hands on a clip from the upcoming episode, “The Tower,” where Negan has a heart-to-heart with Alpha’s daughter Lydia about murdering her mother. It’s awkward:
