The Walking Dead boss talks Maggie’s return in the season 10 finale

The Walking Dead season 10 is over…for now. On Sunday night, AMC aired the penultimate episode of the show’s tenth season, “The Tower.” There’s one more episode to go, but because the crew can’t finish post-production on the finale due to the coronavirus, we’ll be hanging on the edge of this cliff for a while.

So what can fans of the show expect when the finale eventually airs? Let’s look at the promo and see:

Yep, that’s Lauren Cohan as Maggie. She basically vanished from the show with very little explanation in season 9, but she’s back!

The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang talked to Entertainment Weekly and teased how things will play out. “We’ll see some more of the new characters as they’re featured this season, and we will see more of the epic conflict we’ve been witnessing all season with the survivors and the Whisperers,” she said.

"And we’ll see that Maggie is…. We’ll know what’s happened with her and what that means for our group. And our people are obviously on this collision course with the Whisperer horde. We will see Beta doing his thing as the leader of the Whisperers, hell bent on his revenge."

Based on the teaser, it looks like someone’s been leaving messages for Maggie. And with Beta’s massive walker herd shambling toward the hospital where our favorite survivors are preparing to make their last stand, perhaps the former leader of Hilltop can provide some much-needed support.

“Obviously, it’s not been that long in the timeline since Michonne said ‘I’m going to go off and try to find your father,’ and she’s obviously not back,” Kang continued. “We’ll see how Judith’s dealing with that. There’s Darryl and Negan, and Lydia, and Carol, and things with various groupings coming to a head. And we’ll see more from the person in the iron mask with the weapons that come upon Alden and Aaron that we’ll see in sneak peeks and everything. I think it’s a really cool episode. Greg Nicotero did an amazing job directing it. The actors turn in beautiful performances. The writers did amazing work and the crew. I think it’ll be a really satisfying episode.”

Another promo for the season 10 finale shows the group from the hospital attempting to walk amongst the zombie herd wearing gore-smeared clothes in order to hide their scent. Yeah, I’m sure this is going to turn out fine.

We don’t know when the final episode will air, but when it does, expect the huge Commonwealth arc from the comics to begin to work itself into the story.
