Rick Grimes footage used in teaser for The Walking Dead: World Beyond
The last time we saw Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) on The Walking Dead was in season 9 when he was being airlifted to parts unknown by a mysterious group called the CRM: the Civil Republic Military. Since then, the shadowy group has popped up in the spinoff series Fear the Walking Dead, usually in the form of helicopters with three interlaced circles painted on the tail, or by soldiers in full body armor and intimidating masks.
Now, there’s another Walking Dead spinoff coming: World Beyond, about a group of teenagers who have grown up in the midst of the zombie apocalypse. This lot ventures beyond the walls of their compound to explore the larger world outside, which sounds like a terrible idea but let’s see what happens. AMC just released a new teaser for World Beyond, and it looks like the CRM is heavily involved; that’s probably the community where the kids are living when the show starts. Also, we see a lot of Rick Grimes!
As you can see, none of that footage of Rick — or the characters from Fear — is new, so don’t expect them to necessarily turn up in World Beyond…although they could. It more seems like the teaser is trying to establish just how powerful the CRM is. After all, apparently its reach extends from Alexandria, Virginia (where The Walking Dead takes place) to parts of west Texas (where Fear the Walking Dead takes place).
The CRM remain shrouded in mystery, but that teaser certainly makes them sound ominous. Is it possible that they’re an analog for the Commonwealth, a civilization from Robert Kirkman’s Walking Dead comics? We’ll see sooner or later.
Circling back to Fear, AMC also released a trailer for that show’s upcoming sixth season. It almost looks more like an homage to the Mad Max movies than The Walking Dead…which I’m completely okay with:
When last we saw Morgan (Lennie James) in the season 5 finale, he was injured from a gunshot wound and was being surrounded by a large herd of walkers. There’s also horses chasing down a huge armored vehicle with machine guns firing from the side. Meanwhile, Luciana (Danay García) slaves away at the oil field, which seems to be under attack.
AMC has yet to confirm an exact release date for Fear the Walking Dead, but expect season 6 this summer. World Beyond, meanwhile, was supposed to debut this upcoming Sunday, but has been delayed thanks to the coronavirus. Now all we know is that it’s coming “later this year,” which is also when we’ll get to see The Walking Dead season 10 finale. Loads of zombie stuff on the horizon.
