Anthony Daniels “sad” C-3PO’s role was shortened in The Rise of Skywalker

In Star WarsThe Rise of Skywalker, C-3PO becomes a droid of the utmost importance when it is discovered that he is able to translate the inscription on a Sith dagger. However, his programming blocks his ability to read it. It turns out that, unfortunately, the only way for him to read the text is for him to get re-programmed, which results in his memory being wiped.

So everyone’s favorite golden droid had a role to play in the most recent Star Wars movie, but actor Anthony Daniels — who’s been playing C-3PO since the very beginning — thinks the character deserved more screentime, telling IGN that some of his best stuff was cut from the final edit. “There’s an awful lot of editing after you’ve finished filming,” he said. “So C-3PO’s role was even sweeter and broader than that.”

Do we have any details on exactly what was cut? Daniels says that some of the cut scenes developed the relationship between C-3PO and Poe Dameron.

"But some of those niceties have to go because there’s so much in that film already, it’s almost two films in one, as you know. I’m a little sad about that, particularly his relationship with Poe, played by the wonderful Oscar Isaac. That was just so sweet and so funny, because Poe was always kind of irritated by C-3PO, but in a nice way."

Incredibly, C-3PO is the only character who has appeared in all nine mainline Star Wars movies, so I’m glad Disney gave him a more prominent role in this one, the last in which he’s likely to appear. Maybe we can get some of those deleted scenes in an eventual extended cut?
