Chani: Sean Young vs Zendaya

This is Chani, another member of the Fremen and (minor spoiler alert) Paul’s eventual love interest, although I don’t know how much time she’ll get in the first movie. Villeneuve is adapting Dune as two films, and Chani is mostly a presence in the back half. She’s played by Sean Young in Dune 1984 and Zendaya in Dune 2020.

Notice the really really blue eyes in the first pic. The Fremen live their lives in close contact with the spice — it’s in the air all around them; they can’t help but breathe it in. One consequence of being around spice that long is that you get striking blue-in-blue eyes. But the tradeoffs are worth it…or so some thing.
