Gal Gadot teases Wonder Woman 1984: “Diana Prince has evolved”
By Ariba Bhuvad
Wonder Woman 1984 was meant to grace our lives early this summer. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the movie will now release in mid-August. But worry not, Wonder Woman fans: Diana Prince herself is keeping us entertained in the interim.
Speaking with Empire, Gal Gadot teased the character’s evolution since the first movie, which was set during World War I. And here we thought we’d seen Diana Prince become her best self already!
"The first movie was a coming of age, it was Diana becoming Wonder Woman. She was very naive and she didn’t understand the complexities of life. A fish out of water. In this movie, that’s not the case whatsoever. Diana has evolved. She’s much more mature and very wise. However, she’s very lonely. She lost all of her team members and she’s guarded. And then something crazy happens."
What is this crazy thing, you ask? The return of Chris Pine’s character, Steve Trevor, of course!
Just like the rest of you, I’m wondering how in the heck Chris managed to survive the events of the first movie, and looking like he hasn’t aged a day, no less. Your guess is as good as mine, and we’ll have to wait a few months before we find out.
"Chris was an integral part of the [first] movie, and of its success. And because he and I and [director/co-writer Patty Jenkins] really enjoyed working together, we all wanted to have him back. And Patty and [co-writer] Geoff Johns found the best way that serves the narrative to bring Steve back."
There are lots of reasons to be excited for this movie, including the ’80s aesthetic. It looks like we’re entering the world of neon, hairspray, and malls. And Kristen Wiig playing Cheetah is the cherry on top. Thinking of Cheetah from the comics, I think Wiig is the perfect person to bring life to this sassy, fiery villain.
Who else is excited to see Wonder Woman 1984 this summer?
