Netflix was hard at work on the second season of The Witcher when the coronavirus came along and shut everything down. Now all we have is a few images from behind the scenes to hold onto while we await the further adventures of Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, Princess Ciri and the rest.
That’s where the cast and crew come in. They may be quarantined at home, but they’re making the most of it with…the #GreatWitcherBakeoff!
Okay, so here’s what happened. Apparently, The Witcher’s casting director Sophie Holland got in contact with new cast member Paul Bullion, who play the salty witcher Lambert in season 2, and showed off some “hot cross buns” she had baked. In response, Bullion fired up the oven and got to work:
Are those cinnamon buns? Yes please.
And it snowballed from there. Tom Canton, who returns in season 2 as the elven leader Filavandrel, hit back with a tasty-looking beef wellington:
Not to be outdone, Jeremy Crawford, who plays the dwarven warrior Yarpen Zigrin, used a full axe to make an apple pie:
Not missing a beat, Adele Oni — she played Téa, one of the two warriors who traveled with Borch Three Jackdaws during the dragon hunt episode — brought out a sword to make some kind of crispy chocolate dish.
So far, that’s the one I want to eat the most. Also, some of these guys are really going in on the editing.
Even showrunner Lauren Hissrich got in on the fun with her homemade meatloaf. Does that count as making? Who cares? I want it:
Mecia Simson, who plays the elven leader Francesca in season 2, raised the game with her muffins:
Yasen Atour, who’s playing the witcher Coen in season 2, came out with some delicious-looking pastries:
There will surely be more confections created before this is over. Are you listening, Henry Cavill? Show us what you’re made of.
Speaking of Cavill, he’s teaming up with fellow Netflix shining star Mille Bobby Brown (Eleven on Stranger Things) for a new Sherlock Holmes movie from Fleabag director Harry Bradbeer. Other cast members include Helena Bonham Carter and Sam Claflin, with the screenplay by His Dark Materials writer Jack Thorne.
We don’t know who’s playing yet. So is Cavill playing Holmes while Claflin plays Watson, or is it the other way around? We’ll keep an eye out.
