The Walking Dead fans are worried Jerry is going to die, and here’s why

Cooper Andrews, who plays Jerry in The Walking Dead, has shown off his new look on Instagram after shaving off his mighty beard. And already, some fans are frightened that one of the reasons behind his shave could be that he won’t need to return to the Walking Dead set. Could Jerry be on the chopping block for the season 10 finale,  really be killed off in the season 10 finale, which has been shot but won’t air for a while thanks to the coronavirus?

On the show, Jerry is known for his awesome beard. Knowing fans would have questions, Andrews fills us in on the “why” of it all right at the top of the video: “Okay, so since everyone’s growing out their beard or their mustache, I figured I would shave mine,” he says. “It’s been the first time in a little over four years that I’ve done it this way and my face is cold.”

And then, he says something that could sound pretty ominous if you’re a Walking Dead fan worried about Jerry’s fate:

"That is the only reason. I mean, there’s other reasons but that’s a reason."

So what could the “other reasons” be? Worst case scenario: Jerry dies and there’s no need for Andrews to keep up the beard. Best case: Jerry cuts off his beard in the show itself, or Andrews figures he can grow it back in time to play the character again come season 11.

Some fans in the comments went with Option 1. “Oh he’s 100% dead the finale is gonna suck,” one wrote. And another, “RIP Jerry.”

Jerry was last seen saying his goodbyes to Ezekiel, who was preparing to go on an adventure with Eugene and Yumiko. However, when they had gone, Jerry and the rest of our survivors faced a huge attack from Beta and his zombie horde.

Producer Denise Huth has already teased us that we could see some brutal deaths in the finale. “We’re seeing [the survivors] more together, it’s clear that they have some sort of plan, but there’s still that fear.”

"There’s still the knowledge that this is tricky, and that once again maybe not everyone is going to get out alive."

I think it’s unlikely that Andrews would give away his character’s death in so obvious a fashion when you take into account the lengths to which the show has gone to cover up character deaths in the past, most notably in the season 7 premiere, “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be.” That’s the one where we find out who Negan killed with his bat.

But you never know. Unfortunately, we won’t find out for sure until the season 10 finale airs. At the moment, there’s no release date.
