Watch the trailer for the Disney’s docuseries about The Mandalorian

With the coronavirus pandemic still at large, many Star Wars fans are going to be spending their favorite holiday — May the 4th — sheltered safely in place, instead of dressing up as our favorite characters from that galaxy far, far away and gathering with friends around a punch bowl of blue milk.

Happily, Disney+ is helping us work through the pain with an eight-part docuseries about the making of The Mandalorian, the first-ever live-action Star Wars series. Disney Gallery: Star Wars: The Mandalorian debuts on May 4. Check out the trailer below:

The documentary will “go beyond the making of The Mandalorian,” with roundtable discussions featuring the show’s creator Jon Favreau and its showrunner Dave Filoni, as well as directors Rick Famuyiwa, Deborah Chow, Bryce Dallas Howard and Taika Waititi. And of course the show’s cast is in the mix as well.

As expected, cult director Werner Herzog, who had a guest role as the sinister Client, is the highlight of the trailer, and he’s not even part of the roundtable. “It was like one of the weirdest and best things that ever happened with Werner,” recalled Chow. “He was acting against the baby, and he started directing the baby directly. I’m trying to direct Werner who’s now directing the puppet. He was telling us we ‘needed to commit to the magic, make them use the puppet.'”

I could listen to stories about Werner Herzog all day long.

There’s a spiffy poster, too:

Disney Gallery: Star Wars: The Mandalorian kicks off on May 4, only on Disney+. It makes you wonder if we’re going to get other shows in the “Disney Gallery” series. One eight-part docuseries at a time.

The second season of The Mandalorian itself, meanwhile, drops in October.
