Lucifer season 5 runs into “hiccups,” won’t be on Netflix in May
By Dan Selcke
Lucifer fans — or Lucifans, as they are appropriately known online — are some of the most passionate fans around. When Fox cancelled the show, about what happens when Satan (Tom Ellis) abandons his throne in hell to run a nightclub in LA, they rallied so hard that Netflix picked it up for a fourth season, and now, a fifth is on the way! It’s inspiring stuff.
Unfortunately, those fans don’t know when the fifth season is coming. The new season is going to be released in two parts of eight episodes apiece. So far as we know, the first eight episodes are more or less ready to go. But like pretty much every other show and movie in Hollywood, Lucifer has shut down production for the moment due to the coronavirus pandemic. Even if the first eight episodes have been shot, the crew may be unable to complete the special effects and do other vital behind-the-scenes work.
Executive producer Joe Henderson pretty much confirmed this on Twitter:
So there you go: they’ve run into “post-production hiccups,” and Henderson no more knows when Lucifer season 5 will come out than do fans. “[W]e’ll know when you do!”
One thing’s for sure: it won’t be coming out in May. Netflix recently released its list of movies and TV shows — both licensed and original — coming to the service next month, and Lucifer season 5 was nowhere to be found.
This is unfortunate, but hopefully the crew can at least put the finishing touches on quickly when they go back to work.
As for whether we’ll ever see a Lucifer season 6, that’s another matter entirely:
