Get ready for a new direction for Fear The Walking Dead! Apparently, the upcoming sixth season of the AMC Walking Dead spinoff series will have the feel of an anthology, which could mean less of a straight serialized narrative and more standalone episodes.

This news comes from multiple sources. First up, director of photography Andrew Strahorn talked to Digital Spy about what’s to come. “The beginning of the season becomes somewhat of an anthology,” he said. “Each character has their own perspective with regards to the way they saw their involvement within the world and within each other’s lives [as well as] the dynamic between the relationships good and bad.”

Apparently, the tone will also be changing. “There’s a heavier cloud that sits over people’s heads. There’s definitely a progression of not only subject matter but tone. It’s a lot more, I would say, to the forefront with the sense of loss and people choosing sides and where they stand going forward in this new world that they’re trying to survive as best as they can.”

Lenn James, who plays Morgan, also weighed in. If you don’t remember, in the final moments of season 5, Morgan was shot by Ginny and was left abandoned as Walkers slowly made their way towards him. It doesn’t look good for Morgan at all, and the season 6 trailer just emphasized what dire straights he’s in:

Is Morgan destined to become a Walker? Stay tuned. “I couldn’t possibly comment!” James told NME. “He is a survivor, but in this universe, as it’s been proven over and over again on both The Walking Dead and Fear…anybody’s time can be called.”

He’s right, The Walking Dead isn’t shy to kill off beloved characters. Look no further than Carl, Rick and Glenn!

James also touched on the anthology element of season 6. “They’ve taken a really bold and brave swing at the way we’re telling the story this season,” he said. “There was a bit more of a sense of the story being told as an anthology, and the episodes being more self-contained.”

It seems like they’re really pushing this whole 16 mini-movies idea. For better or for worse? We’ll have to wait and see.

I’m looking forward to seeing how Morgan’s “death” — or, more likely, a close shave with death — will change things. Fear The Walking Dead has come under some heavy criticism from fans in previous seasons, so a shake-up may be just what it needs.

We’re not entirely sure when Fear the Walking Dead season 6 will premiere, but will keep our ear to the ground.
