The Flash Episode 619: “Success Is Assured”

Team Flash pulls it off in the show’s (early) season 6 finale, and I have to say I’m impressed. Sure, there were some bumps along the road, but for an episode that wasn’t supposed to be the finale, it did a pretty stellar job. After a series of bumpy episodes, we end up in a solid place for season 7.

This episode finds Team Flash mounting a rescue to save Iris and company from the Mirrorverse. This task has been difficult because they didn’t know where Iris was, or even that she was gone, and by Barry’s lack of speed.

And as of last week, Eva is now out in the real world, with only one goal in mind: killing her husband, Joseph Carver. But she can’t do that until she deals with the Black Hole gang, and thanks to Ralph and the diamond he got from Sue, Team Flash has an idea of where Eva and her team may be headed. After arriving at the warehouse where the diamond led them, they run into Evil Mirror Singh. He reveals that Carver is not innocent in any of this, and knew exactly where Eva was this entire time and chose not to do anything but make money off of her company. Awkward.

It turns out Carver does know a bit more than he let on, and even knew that Iris was sucked into the Mirrorverse. Um, why didn’t you say anything before, Carver?! Poor Barry has been losing his mind, and I’ve been giving him a hard time because of it. I think what freaks me out the most is that the longer Iris is stuck in this Mirrorverse, the more likely she is to succumb to “neuro dissonance.” In other words, she’s about to lose her mind in there, and quite possibly her life.

Now it makes sense why Iris has been experiencing those strong bouts of pain and disconnection. Thank you, The Flash, for finally clarifying so much in this episode. Dare I say I take back some (only some) of my criticisms from weeks prior?

Team Black Hole, Sunshine, Hoshi, and Ultraviolet end up becoming Eva’s next victims and disappear one after another after she shows up at Carver’s house. After this, Carver take Barry’s offer of CCPD protection seriously, and he doesn’t just want basic protection; he wants “Joe West is in WITSEC” level of protection.

He does realize he’ll have to be in a mirrorless, reflection-less place, right?

Mirror Captain Singh shows up and attempts to lure Barry with an offer: Iris’ life in exchange for giving up Carver. I’m not always the biggest fan of Barry, but I did understand his thought process and consideration of Mirror Singh’s offer. Can we blame the guy for wanting to save the love of his life?

The final showdown takes place at McCulloch Technologies, where Carver believes he is safe within his panic room. But where there’s a reflection, there’s a way, and Eva manages to do what she’s been planning this entire time: kill Carver. And to do it she shoves mirror shards through Barry’s chest so they get to Carver. Let’s not forget that The Flash doesn’t have his full powers so this is going to hurt, a lot.

I had a hell of a time watching this showdown. It was pretty epic, wasn’t it? And the look of it was a treat for the eyes. I’m telling you, The Flash really turned things around for the season 6 finale.

Watching Ralph, Allegra, Nash and Sue (yes, she joins too!) fight against the Three is riveting, and something we’ve been missing on the series. I was glad to see some of it come back again!

The threat of Eva seems to diminish once Carver is dead, because at the end of the day, that’s all she wanted out of this. But I had one burning question on my mind: what about Iris? Can she maybe help Team Flash get her back or…?

While I’m not sure what happens with that, the next day Eva tells the world that she’s been a kidnapping victim. And what happened to her husband? He died trying to save her. Well done, Eva, well done.

The episode caught me off guard in the final few moments. Carver’s murder is pinned on Sue Dearbon. Uh oh, but what about her and Ralph?! Can they get married already?!

Before the finale ends, we see Joe return from the world of WITSEC, because now the danger is gone, and there’s no reason to hide. Team Flash is back together (sans Cisco and Frost/Caitlin) and they have just one goal in mind: find and bring back Iris.

But there might be one major issue here. Iris just sort of cracked, sparkled, and vanished in the Mirrorverse. And we’re not sure if she’s okay.

Well, then…that’s one way to end this season of The Flash. Color me impressed.
