DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Episode 512: “Freaks and Geeks”
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is quite possibly one of my favorite shows on television right now. Its genius is in the fact that it never, ever takes itself seriously. But with that said, there is still a depth to the stories we see week after week. Shows like The Flash can certainly learn a thing or two from it, at least in my opinion.
This week, the Legends head to college, which is a great premise from the jump. And the fact that Sara trudges through the entire episode blind without being affected at all just takes things to the next level.
The name of the game has been gathering all the pieces of the Loom of Fate, but now that they have them, they’re still missing one thing: they only have two individuals who have god-like powers, which means they need to find one more in order to do what they need to do. While puzzling this out, Nate spots what he recalls as “The Chug Cup” from his college days in one of the spellbooks.
This cup is actually known as the Cup of Dionysus and Dion, and in order to obtain it, the Legends have to dive into the world of sororities and fraternities. Again, the whole idea is hilarious, and works perfectly for this motley crew of crazies.
Nate is in his prime as he relives his college days. He’s always been like this, but now seeing him in this environment really puts it all into perspective.
Amidst all this, Mick and Lita are touring the campus. I love that of all the characters to make into a father, they chose Mick. He was the most unlikely one, and yet he’s really finding his way with this whole dad thing. He even went back in time and donated money to the college so one of the buildings could be named after him, thus giving Lita bragging rights on campus.
The father and daughter really bond during this week’s episode, and I was here for every moment of it. Just one of a million reasons to adore Legends of Tomorrow.
In order to get their hands on the Chug Cup, the group needs to have followers. So what do they decide to do? Create their own sorority, of course! And luckily, Constantine has the perfect house to turn into a makeshift Greek home.
Astra is officially a part of the episode this week, and I have to say, I’m really liking her as a part of the team. She seems to fit in effortlessly and brings a different sort of sass and attitude. More so than Zari, I dare say.
Together, the girls work together to gain more followers. This involves Sara indulging in a game of beer pong with Dion, and I’m happy to report she kills it.
With the Chug Cup finally in their possession, the Legends decide to join Charlie on a quest to obtain temporary immortality by drinking wine out of the cup. What’s next? Hopefully bringing Behrad back to life. I miss the guy.
Grade: A-
All in all, the Arrowverse shows were all pretty consistent and entertaining across the board this week, and yes, I’m including The Flash. While The Flash is done for the season, we still have three more shows to wrap up before the Arrowverse goes on an indefinite hiatus.
Here’s to hoping each of them closes out strongly and gives us the ending we’re all hoping for.
Until next week!
