Green Arrow and the Canaries still “very much alive” at The CW

The television industry has been plagued with uncertainly thanks to the coronavirus, with no one quite certain when production can resume. The CW is doing its best to navigate a path through this morass, laying out a plan to premiere new episodes of its shows beginning in January of 2021 (with the exception of Supernatural, which will air the remaining episodes of its final season this fall, circumstances allowing).

However, Arrowverse fans couldn’t help but notice there were some shows missing from the January lineup, namely Arrow spinoff Green Arrow and the Canaries. Of course, the series hasn’t officially ordered the show to series yet, but up until now, we’ve basically been led to believe that it is likely going to happen, especially after that stellar backdoor pilot from Arrow’s final season.

According to E! News, CW President Mark Pedowitz has assures fans that Green Arrow and the Canaries is part of an “ongoing discussion” and “is very much alive.” My only question is: why are they still thinking about it and not ordering it? I know things are a bit up in the air right now, but the backdoor pilot already aired, and I think it’s safe to say we all loved it; it was even the most-watched episode of Arrow’s final season at the time it aired. What more do they need to pull the trigger?

Also, I noticed that the January lineup is missing Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, which are in the middle of their seasons right now. Still, these shows will eventually air new seasons, whereas we’re still not sure Green Arrow and the Canaries. Can anyone else tell that I’m salty about this?

Regardless of the delays, I remain hopeful that The CW will announce a pick-up order any day now. After all, who doesn’t want to see  Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy, and Juliana Harkavy kicking butt and taking names?

In some unambiguous good news, Pedowitz also said that they’re planning some kind of Superman-Batwoman crossover episode, which is something we can all get behind.
