Doctor Who holiday special to have “brilliant” Dalek return

By now, Doctor Who fans are used to the show airing a holiday special every year, something to help bridge the gap between seasons. This year will be no exception, and it sounds like the upcoming Dalek-filled special could be one to remember.

Due to the coronavirus, shows and movies everywhere have halted production, but the Doctor Who holiday special had already been filmed. In an interview with Radio Times, star Mandip Gill (Yaz) talked about what to expect from “Revolution of the Daleks.”

Along with the Weeping Angels, the Daleks are my favorite Doctor Who villains, and I am so pumped that they’re making a grand return. I know they were in the 2019 holiday special, but when it comes to Daleks, one go-round is never enough.

“Oh, it’s brilliant!” Gill said of the special. “They never get old. And it seems so long ago we did it the first time! Working with iconic monsters and whatnot, that people associate with Doctor Who, makes you feel more cemented in the series. When we work with things like Cybermen, John Barrowman, the Daleks, the Judoon… you feel like you’re now properly part of the Doctor Who family.”

I couldn’t have said it better. These characters are synonymous with the series, and getting to work with them in any capacity must feel like a rite of passage. And Gill has already been up close and personal with some famous Doctor Who baddies, even donning a Cyberman suit in the season 12 finale. Now that isn’t a privilege given to just anyone.

“Yeah, I was really looking forward to the reaction,” she said. “It’s so amazing to work with all these things that people have been talking about and associate with Doctor Who, and are really iconic. And working with the Daleks and the Cybermen, and even the Judoon is so exciting. But I was a Cyberman! When I read it I was so excited.  I was like “I’m getting in it? I’m getting in the Cyberman??” It was so exciting for me.”

We don’t yet have specific details on the holiday special, but we can assume it’ll air either during Christmas or on New Year’s Day as it has in the past. Which means we’re ringing in the holidays with the Daleks!
