DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Episode 513: “I Am Legends”

It was only a matter of time before DC’s Legends of Tomorrow tackled zombies, and once again, the episode does not disappoint. I don’t think I’ve been let down by a single episode this season, and that’s saying something. This show doesn’t take itself seriously and it seems to be working for it.

While Supergirl and Batwoman have ended for the season, I’m thankful to still have a couple more episodes of Legends left, along with a whole season of Stargirl. The Arrowverse lives on!

So this week’s episode of Legends features a zombie apocalypse, which descends upon the group after they take their immortal selves to London. Basically, they’re SOL because Charlie’s sisters stole the Waverider and the Loom, and brought Astra back over to their side in the process.

It’s a hot mess, and unfortunately, Gary and his bunny-wunny are the only ones left on the Waverider when it’s stolen. In order to get back on the ship, Ava concocts a plan to go to one of the Time Bureau’s old safe house and obtain a Time Courier. Easier said than done.

They need the Courier because, without it, they’re stuck where they are, and the zombie apocalypse created by Charlie’s sisters doesn’t help. If you’ve ever wanted to see what zombies on drugs looks like, just watch this episode.

It’s an absurd combination of every type of zombie we’ve ever seen, and it’s quite terrifying. In fact, they were so terrifying that I had nightmares about them later that night. I hope if we ever find ourselves in a zombie apocalypse, that they don’t run as fast as these ones did.

But the Legends kicked some major butt despite not having much to work with. And let’s not forget: Zari didn’t drink the immortal juice so she’s in a very high-stakes situation here, but don’t worry about her: Constantine is here (wink, wink).

With some detours along the way and multiple literal death experiences (they can’t die, at least not until the time runs out on the immortality), the Legends finally make it to the safe house. They locate the Time Courier only to learn that it’s not charged.

That’s what stands between them and safety. Yikes.

The biggest gut-punch, however, is that blind Sara (yes, she’s still blind) has a vision that she’s going to die in the safehouse. And unfortunately, when zombies come rampaging in, it seems like her vision was right.

Back on the Waverider, Gary gets himself electrocuted trying to figure out how to take over the ship and get Gideon’s help. Every time a human form of Gideon has popped up on the show, I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed it.

That’s not exactly what’s happening here, but Gary gets access to her and is able to snag the rings before the sisters find him. Was it the greatest idea he’s had? Not really, but A for effort, buddy. Plus, he did what he thought was going to help.

But ultimately it cost him his life, and Astra’s, and now I’m wondering what the heck has happened. Are they actually dead? And why is Charlie’s family so horrible? I want to give a shout-out to Gary for convincing Astra to channel the good inside of her; it didn’t result in a victory, but it’s his belief that she could be good that got to me.

Back at the safe house, things are getting out of control, and once the Courier is charged, the only person able to get out of there is Charlie. Everyone else is knee-deep in  zombies. But hey, at least Constantine and Zari hooked up, so there’s that!

The episode ends on a jarring note as Charlie gets back on the Waverider, convinces Gary to give her the rings before he’s toast, and then hands them to her sisters. Uh, she’s just trying to fool them, right?

She’s not turning against the Legends…right?

Grade: A

What a week in the Arrowverse! Between the Stargirl series premiere and two shows concluding their seasons early, we had plenty to talk about. I was very satisfied with how this week of episodes turned out, and even though we are now down to just two Arrowverse shows until next year, I’m excited to see where they take us.

I’ll see you all next week!
