The season 10 finale of The Walking Dead has a lot to live up to. It was supposed to air weeks ago, but was delayed thanks to the TV sets everywhere shutting down in response to the coronavirus pandemic. In the weeks since the penultimate episode aired, many crew members and actors have teased what’s to come, but Norman Reedus (Daryl) has offered up what might be the bravest take date.

Season 10 has already given us one large battle between our heroes and the Whisperers. That came in Episode 11, “Morning Star,” when Alpha and her group attacked the Hilltop:

This attack didn’t end well for our heroes, with parts of the Hilltop burned to ashes. But fan reaction was largely positive across the board. The cast and crew think that the season finale can replicate that and then some.

If you don’t remember, the most recent episode, “The Tower,” left us with a nail-biting cliffhanger. After conquering Alexandria and finding it abandoned, Beta learns where are survivors are hiding and plans an all-out attack with his enormous zombie horde. We’ll finally see what happens in the ominously titled “A Certain Doom.”

“It’s going to be an epic battle,” Reedus teased to Entertainment Weekly. “It’s like a full-on Game of Thrones super war battle.”

Comparisons to Game of Thrones battles aren’t to be taken lightly. HBO’s fantasy series was famous for its epic battle sequences and huge sets. For Reedus to make the comparison says a lot about the effort the Walking Dead team has put into this finale, and sets a high bar for it to clear.

Reedus believes this next battle will go down in Walking Dead history as one of the most “legendary” sequences on the show. Making that happen required a lot of hard work:

"It was a lot of fun to shoot, but we really pushed the crew and pushed the actors on that one. Everyone really had to dig deep because… talk about exhausting episodes! There were huge battle scenes until the wee hours of the morning consistently, and it looks so grand on an epic scale. Those battle scenes are going to be legendary."

Of course, this wasn’t the only time the show has pushed the cast to the limit. “They really stick it to us on that show,” Reedus explained. “But it always pays off. This show will go down in history. And I feel like every time we get to a finale or even a mid-season finale, we could be in over our heads, but there’s a confidence there and everybody really brings it.”

We still don’t have an official release date for “A Certain Doom.” The longer the wait goes on, the more excited we get. I’m hoping that it’s able to live up to all of the hype.
