DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Episode 514: “The One Where We’re Trapped on TV”

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow goes full meta this week with an episode about being stuck on a television show. Does it get better than this, ladies and gentlemen? And Marc Guggenheim was behind the camera for all of it, delivering one of the funniest, most creative episodes of the season.

There is so much to love about this week’s Legends of Tomorrow. It deals with Charlie’s plan to keep the Legends safe from her dangerous sisters. Apparently, the only way to do this is to split them up and trap them in television shows mimicking Downtown Abbey, Star TrekMister Rogers’ Neighborhood and Friends. Or rather, in their world: Highcastle Abbey, Star Trip and Ultimate Buds. Even for Legends of Tomorrow, this especially very inventive and unique. I loved it.

The TV shows the Legends are stuck in take place in a world where the people follow and idolize the Fates. But it’s not until the old Zari finds a way out of the totem and embodies the current Zari’s body that someone is alerted to the weirdness of the whole situation.

This may sound mean, but does anyone else love the new Zari more than the old one? Just curious if I’m alone in that.

While Zari makes her way through each television show to “wake” the Legends up, Gary and Mona are cogs in the Fates’ world and are not “woke” about their previous identities. However, Mona starts to realize something is off every time she switches to one of the shows. It’s thanks to Mona and Gary rewriting the “episodes” that the Legends realize what’s going on.

Before we get back to the drama of it all, Nate and the old Zari reunite, but Behrad is left looking for the version of his sister that he knows. Don’t worry: new Zari is nearby, sort of.

Charlie is livid when she realizes Gary and Mona have messed with what she has done for the Legends and splits up the “thread” that makes Zari, which splits her into the old and new versions. Woah, things are gonna get pretty confusing if this becomes the new normal.

But do the Legends care about Charlie’s plan to protect them? Nah, not at all. Their lives may be in more danger than they care to realize, but this time, they’re on their own.

loved this episode because each TV show featured a perfect selection of characters. Raise your hand up high if you loved seeing John Constantine as a butler in Highcastle Abbey, or if you loved seeing Ava don Star Trek-like attire.

It was pretty genius, which pains me because next week is the season 5 finale.

No, it’s too soon. We’re not ready to say goodbye, not yet.

Grade: A-

I know this was a short week for Arrowverse, but we were lucky enough to have two great episodes. There was action, drama, and a whole lot of satire.

We’ll see you next week for the Legends finale, and another chapter in the Stargirl saga. Until then, stay safe!

Next. Into The Arrowverse: Batwoman and Supergirl end, Stargirl begins. dark
