Doctor Who and its spin-offs are now available to stream on HBO Max!

Are you living in the US? Want to watch the first eleven seasons of Doctor Who’s revival? Or even two of its spin-offs? HBO Max has you covered!
US viewers: if you’ve missed having Doctor Who available to watch on a streaming service, then you’re in luck. The new streaming service HBO Max finally launched on Wednesday, boasting a huge amount of content. This includes a large number of HBO shows, including the absolute essentials Game of Thrones, The Wire and The Sopranos; DC movies and TV shows (we all know about the Snyder Cut of Justice League by now); and several BBC shows. Including, of course, Doctor Who.
Specifically, the first 11 seasons of the New Series are available to watch right now. Every episode starring Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, and Peter Capaldi as the Doctor, plus the first season with Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, are available to watch. Season 12 will also be available at a later date.
WarnerMedia made sure to give this key bit of news a press release of its own back in Aug 2019, which was a smart move. If the popular HBO shows and large collection of movies weren’t enough of a draw for the streaming service, then acquiring one of the biggest sci-fi shows ever definitely is. But Doctor Who isn’t the only draw for its large number of US fans…
If Doctor Who wasn’t enough, you can also watch Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, too!

The spin-offs
Along with its parent show, Torchwood is also available to watch on HBO Max. Surprisingly, not much has been made about this. While it’s been off the air for almost a decade, Torchwood still has a dedicated fanbase, and its darker take on the Doctor Who universe was fantastic to watch.
But just as exciting is Russell T Davies’s other spin-off: The Sarah Jane Adventures. If Torchwood was for the adults, then The Sarah Jane Adventures was more for the kids. However, don’t let that put you off. Along with featuring some great characters and plenty of strong nods to the Classic Series, it features some surprisingly dark storylines of its own. This is especially true of the Trickster, who often offers the most terrible choices to change history in massive ways.
If you live in the US and all of that sounds like a good deal to you, head on over to HBO Max’s website and subscribe for $15 per month. And remember: if you’re interested in Classic Who, hundreds of episodes are available to watch on BritBox.
Will you be subscribing to HBO Max? If so, is Doctor Who the big draw, or are there other series that you’re interested in? Let us know in the comments below.
