Wait, isn’t he dead? How Boba Fett could be in The Mandalorian season 2

What role will Boba Fett play on The Mandalorian?
Dave Filoni also worked on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, an animated series that ran for seven seasons. We learned a lot about young Boba Fett in that show, including how he was bitter toward the Jedi and Mace Windu. He even hatched a plot to kill Master Windu, but he wasn’t quite able to pull it off.
We don’t know exactly how Filoni will bring Boba back, but when he arrives, it’ll very likely be an older version of this Boba Fett, the one we met in The Clone Wars, with all of his backstory attached.
And there’s another option. Remember that video of the mysterious shadowy figure from the top of the post? That might not be Boba Fett at all, but rather someone wearing Boba Fett’s armor.
You see, in the comic book Star Wars: Aftermath by Chuck Wendig, we meet a character named Cobb Vanth, a former slave who buys Boba Fett’s iconic green Mandalorian armor and weaponry from some Jawas on Tatooine. Vanth uses the armor and weapons to become a lawman in the Tatooine settlement of Freetown, where he encounters and defeats crime syndicates who are trying to take control of the planet in the wake of Jaba the Hutt’s death. And where are we when we see that mysterious Mandalorian scene? Tatooine. Pause for gasps.
Notably, Aftermath is not part of the EU, but rather something commissioned by Disney during the lead-up to The Force Awakens, so it’s canon. And we recently learned that actor Timothy Olyphant is joining The Mandalorian for its second season, and that he was seen waring Boba Fett’s armor on set.
Perhaps Olyphant is playing Cobb Vanth, and Temuera Morrison only plays Boba Fett in a flashback or something. Or Boba Fett is alive, and probably none too happy with someone walking around in his armor. Either way, we’re here for it.
Something else is note is that, while Boba Fett traditionally has worn the same kind of armor and helmet as Din Djarin, the main character on The Mandalorian, neither he nor Jango Fett were Mandalorian himself, at least not according to Filoni, who claims to have gotten word on the topic from George Lucas himself.
After all, we learned in The Mandalorian that being Mandalorian means following a certain creed, and doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with where you were born or your race. Boba Fett is a bounty hunter, but he doesn’t seem to hold to any of the same ideals as the Mandalorians we met on the Disney+ show.
Will this make for good conflict when season 2 debuts? We’ll see come October!
