Tabernas Desert, Spain as…the Aiel Waste

The Aiel Waste is a desert region, so inhospitable that only the hardy Aiel live here. The harsh land is home to many animal species, some of which are unique to this desert region and all which seem dangerous to humans in some way.

If we could cross the ocean, the deserts around the Grand Canyon would fit this location, but if we’re sticking to Europe, the best option is the Tabernas Desert in Spain, a short flight away from Croatia.

Tabernas Desert fits the Aiel Waste. The region is unable to retain moisture, so instead the rain causes erosion and forms badlands, a type of dry terrain characterized by steep slopes and minimal vegetation. Bring on the oosquia.
