New Doctor Who story out tomorrow, official watchalong canceled

The upcoming and final Doctor Who fan watch/tweetalong has been officially canceled, amidst worldwide Black Lives Matter protests. Doctor Who Magazine’s Emily Cook took to Twitter to share the news, saying that it didn’t “seem appropriate at this time.”

During a time of uncertainty, the tweetalongs have bonded Whovians around the world during the coronavirus lockdown. We’ve also been lucky enough to gets lots of new content from past and present showrunners, some of which has included the return of past Doctors, companions, and various other characters from the franchise. I particularly liked David Tennant returning to play the Tenth Doctor in “The Secret of Novice Hame,” written by former showrunner Russell T Davies:

While there won’t be a final tweetalong, fans can join the organization Black Girls Create for their own watchalong on June 6, featuring four episodes back-to-back! These including Season 10’s “Thin Ice” and “Knock Knock,” Season 11’s “The Ghost Monument,” and Season 12’s “The Haunting of Villa Diodati.”

And while there won’t be an official tweetalong, Doctor Who fans can still look forward to one more round of new content courtesy of former showrunner Steven Moffatt, who has written a new scene featuring companions of the Twelfth Doctor Pearl Mackie (Bill Potts) and Matt Lucas (Nardole). You can check that out tomorrow as well!

This time of unrest has been chaotic and troubling, but it’s uplifting to see folks band together in whatever way they can to support one.
